Coota
Hi guys, first post, I have been brewing for four years. I have done several Berry Beers with kits and raw sugar and honey. I bar mixed 1.065 kilos of berry blend added that to one can of Canadian blonde to 23 liters without straining the pulp, the problem I have is the OG was 1026, I think the pulp was holding the hydrometer up or I'm about to make a light beer. Is it lying to me or not?
Otto Von Blotto
If it was holding the hydrometer up then the reading should be higher, not lower. Anyway, I've no experience with adding berries etc to my brews so I can't really help you, but someone should be able to. [joyful]
Coota
Thank you Otto, after considering it with more thought, perhaps the problem is the pulp in the hydrometer was actually holding it down, not too concerned as I have three brews in the FV. If I end up with a light beer, it's something to give somebody for Christmas and birthdays. Cheers mate.
LordEoin
Not sure what 'berry blend' is, but check the packet and see how many grams of sugar are in it. Bang it into brewmate as that weight of dextrose and 1.7kg liquid malt extract and it should give you a fairly close OG.
NewtownClown
You reading is most likely correct. I recently added a kilo of Berry Blend to a favourite Hefeweizen recipe and it only added 3 points to the OG... Your kit in 23 litres on it's own would be 1.
NewtownClown
Also, it is not to late to add some more fermentables. 500 grams of Dex. or DME will add a further 8 points and result in approx 4% ABV in the bottle. Without, you are looking at around 3%
