scottb12
Hi everyone, I have 750 gms of crystal malt left over from my last brew (traditional draught with 250 gms crystal steeped). I was wondering what other sort of kits I could add this malt too? Also what kits benefit from adding other sort of malts? One of the online shops I get my gear from has a smoked malt. I'm keen on trying this with a dark ale to get a smokey flavour, has anyone tried this before? Cheers Scott
Damien E1
Any beer you want a bit more colour in really. I mostly use it for Bitters and American Pale Ales. I've never tried it in a Lager but I see no reason why it wouldn't work well in a bock for example.
Canadian Eh!L
Hi Scott, I have used Smoked malt with success. This is the recipe I have used a couple of times Campfire Porter 1.7Kg Os Stout 1.7Kg E. Bitter 250g Smoked Malt (cracked & steeped 30mins) 23L water 14g Cooper's ale yeast I've wedged it into the "robust porter" sub-style. It really is a robustbeer. If you are looking to make it a little more meek make it to 25L and maybe 150g Smoked Malt and 150g of Crystal. As it is it makes for a really interesting but easy to make brew. As for your crystal... I'd say use it in all your future beers. [cool]
Guest
I agree with Chad, Crystal in all your kits will make a big difference. However, Smoked Beer is certainly not for me thanks [sick]
