RichardR9
Ok, I have searched around on this but as yet have not found an answer..... When sanitizing using bleach - which is all I have at present - how much water for you put in the FV for this - do I need to fill it up all the way (25l) - or can I simply put in 5 - 10 litres and swish it around?? Obviously this has an impact on how much bleach I will be using (5ml per litre I understand) Any assistance appreciated
BakersAle
i reckon you only need to use 5litres water inside the fv and around 50mls of bleach. Then you all you need to do is use a cloth wet sides swish it around let it sit for an hr or 2 then rinse out
Guest
I don't know about bleach but if you have some Napisan in the Laundry I suggest using that instead.
PB2
If the fermenting vessel (FV) is already clean, you only need 1/4 of a cup of unscented bleach and fill the FV to the brim with cold water. If you aren't confident that you have removed all soiling, use 1/2 a cup. Once you have drained the FV, rinse with hot water to remove the chlorine smell prior to adding beer ingredients. RichardR9
Thanks PB2, very useful info. At that dilution how long would I need to soak the FV for - would 1/2 hour do the job? I have previously used Milton Tablets for the job, but that was proving expensive. Managed to pick up a few litres on cheap unscented bleach for a few pounds, so will go with that for now! PB2
1/2 hour should do the job nicely.
