Lactose

I just used 500g Lactose in my Grand Final stout. It sweetens and thickens it up without adding to the alc volume. I have used it alot in my milk stouts over the years, got to say i love the stuff, especially if am doing a toucan original stout and i need to unbitter it a bit.

 

Start with 300g and see what you think

If your boiling up a DME or LME you could add after flameout. I just add it to my hot/warm water and stir it in after my cans of Kit like i would dex or DME if i was adding it to a kit and kilo. I have never pre boiled it, mix it up with your dex if your using it in a bit of warm water if you like but i dont bother. Some boil it for 15minutes they say the are sterilizing it, i have never had a batch go off doing it the way i do it.

 

Lactose throws your gravity up by up to 10points so dont forget to subtract this in your OG and FG reading
