Sirkillalot
I'm going to put down a Raspberry Blonde using the Strawberry Blonde recipe and my question is: What are people using to suspend the fruit in the fermenter? Can I just chuck it in and be okay?
Phil Glass
Take a look at the blushing blonde recipe,I think that's the one you're after.
Sirkillalot
When it says disposable cleaning cloth, is that like a paper towel? Wouldn't it just disintegrate in the beer?
Matty A
More like a chux cloth (http://www.chux.com.au/the-chux-range/chux-cloth-range/superwipes-range/). I use a cheap version of these from IGA, I can pick 10 up for $2. They are also really good for hop pellets etc.
Muddy Waters
You can also use muslin or I use a stock bag I bought at Thai town in Sydney (any asian grocer should have them). The good thing about the chux is you don't have to sanitise them if they are fresh out the pack and you can just throw them away at the end of your brew with all the hop sludge inside. Sirkillalot
Thanks for the advice, looking forward to putting it down tonight. I picked up the Chux bags from Wollies, hopefully they work out well.
Matty A
I use them a lot mainly for hop additions to. I normally put the hops in the middle and then tie the 4 corners up. Muddy I am yet to try stock bags. Maybe next time I go to the Asian grocer.
Muddy Waters
Matty - If you are happy with the chux you may as well stick with them as they are probably easier as you can just chuck them away.
NicolasW
Hey guys I bottled a blushing blonde today, and I'm getting what I think is some off smells. Has anyone found this? Taste wise its a bit bitter sweet.
NewtownClown
Hey guys I bottled a blushing blonde today' date=' and I'm getting what I think is some off smells. Has anyone found this? Taste wise its a bit bitter sweet.[/quote'] I also bottled a blushing blonde on Sunday! My 5th to date. I split the brew between two 15Lt FV and use different berries in each. This is a great brew for the non beer lovers. I bottle in clear glass (Corona, Sol, Cantina) and it looks "very pretty". I present it as an alternative to RTD's (Cruisers, Breezers, etc), lower alcohol, natural fruit, no added flavours or preservatives.... Very popular with the girls at my fortnightly poker game [love] Rasberries, Blueberries and Cranberries produce a tartness (perhaps the "bitter" in your "bitter/sweet". "Off smells" is not descriptive enough: rotten eggs, cabbage, vinegar, sulphur are all terms used to describe aromas in beer that has had "problems". Check out http://www.howtobrew.com/section4/chapter21-1.html for advice AND reassurance. Many perceived "off" flavours and aromas are "scrubbed" out during secondary fermentation in the bottle.. Also, I find the Blushing blonde takes a little longer to condition.
Sirkillalot
/* I split the brew between two 15Lt FV and use different berries in each. \\ What two berries did you use? I should do something crazy and do like a mango one or something.
