DerekD2
I've heard good things about Coopers kits so I decided to try one out. I purchased the Wheat Beer Kit and I have a question. The liquid malt extract has a black label with gold bars and the top and bottom. My brewing buddies told me this is the pre-hopped version and I shouldn't boil it, but there is also a "tan" version that you can... the bars at the top and bottom are semi-tan, but the majority of the label is black. Do I boil this extract or just heat the can up in hot water and dump it strait into my fermenter?
Matty A
Dump the kits straight into your fermenter. There is no need to boil any of the coopers products unless they have been opened prior to putting them in the fermenter. I believe if you boil the kits it has detrimental effects specifically to the hop aroma and taste.
Kearnage
This is the Wheat Beer Kit (pre-hopped): Wheat Kit Don't boil it. This is the Wheat malt extract: Wheat malt extract You don't need to boil it, but if you are making hop additions etcyou can include a portion in the boil. Robbo
Dragging this discussion back... (sorry guys)... Has anyone had experience in using wheat malt as an adjunct to a regular (ie not wheat) beer kit recipe? If so what outcome did you get? good, bad or indifferent?? Kearnage
Spoilsport! I used one tin of wheat malt extract and one of light malt extract (no kit) to make my galaxy/amarillo pale ale. IMHO it rocked. Dan
