RichardM9
Just prior to testing my latest brew today I dropped my hydrometer and it completely smashed. I intend going to my nearest Big W (Raymond Terrace, NSW)tomorrow to see if they have one in stock. If they don't, is there any other way to test my brews readiness for bottling. I think, going from various indicators (clarity, smell, bubbling) that I have a couple of days leeway, but not enough time to order via the internet which usually takes 4 to 5 days. DutchJT
G'day Richard If you have no luck at bigW, try the tobacconist in the main street as she keeps a supply of home brew gear on hand. JohnT
Muddy Waters
It doesn't help you Richard but the new coopers DIY ([pinched] ) kit will have a plastic hydrometer making such incidents a thing of the past.
PB2
Not a big deal if you plan to bottle into PETs. If the brew has maintained a temp' at or above 18C, it's a normal brew recipe (eg. can + kilo), the can was well within BB date, you can expect fermentation to be near or at completion by 10 days at the latest.
