Chimps
Hi all, I've been reading a bunch of posts and am wondering how Muddy seals his FV - he obviously does'nt use an airlock!! Cheers
Kearnage
Muddy's not here man... (Sorry, in my defence, it's true). I believe he uses glad wrap (cling wrap) with the 'O' ring from the fermenter lid to keep it on. A pin prick allows excess gas to escape. Muddy can correct me when he returns... PS - I like airlocks. Use 'em all the time [happy]
Chimps
Cool. Thanks Mate. Just wondering, are the carbonation drops made of basic household sugar or something else? If they are household stuff is it better to prime with brewers sugar or doesnt it matter? Cheers
brianc6
carbo drops are if i am not wrong correct me if i am a dutch sugar lolli but as it has been answered all over here mate bulk priming is the best way to go i am quite sure pb2 can point you in the right direction he always has the answers [biggrin]
Kearnage
The pack says "Ingredients: sugar glucose". (It's also repeated en Francais.) The drops are incredibly easy if you are using standard sized bottles, anything else bulk priming is the go. Simple sugars are fine for priming. PB2
Muddy mentioned he was going to Thailand again - it's a regular thing for him. I remember, when the Brewers Guild started this year, Muddy put two breweries up, Aust and Thai[sideways]

Slurtis Staggersalot
I have two 10 gallon FV's that have a lid that snaps into place, air tight. I haven't noticed any problem with the gas not escaping, but there is a lot of head space because a 23l brew only fills them half way.
Muddy Waters
[rightful] All correct! Yes, I secure my glad wrap with the o-ring as depicted in PB2's picture (How do you keep your ring looking so clean and fresh?). Yes, I was in Thailand for a disastrous 4 week stint. ah so that's where he dissapeared to lucky bugger I wasn't there doing the things you think I was doing Brian [biggrin]

Trusty1
(How do you keep your ring looking so clean and fresh?). [biggrin] [sideways] [lol] One must be careful as one's ring may become dry and cracked over time, (mine split just last week) and I believe oil based products can damage said ring if trying to maintain ones ring in a soft, supple state! I understand gentle wiping (folded or scrunched, matters not!!) with a soft paper towel will assist in maintaining one's ring in a state fit for the activity of containing gases built up during chemical reactions.
