Marty_G Posted July 24, 2020 Share Posted July 24, 2020 30 seconds if not fermenting. If there is a lot of gas because it is fermenting maybe a minute or so as it degasses. However, it really is not that important as the hydrometer reading is to indicate if it is fermenting and if it is finished. So the OG and FG readings are what you want. Best thing to do is to take a reading on day 1 then next day take a sample and leave the hydro in it in a dark cupboard or on a shelf and it will continue to ferment when it stops the yeast will settle out and it will stop bubbling.
