ChrisM8 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 G'day folks! I recently put down a real ale can + 500g LME and BE2... Into this I added 25g Fuggles hops (boiled with LME for 10 min) at flame-out another 25g Fuggles hops (steeped for 20 min), dry hopped with another 25g of Fuggles hops (post 72 hrs)...so... Given the inordinate amount of hops, why now am I drinking said brew & no, that's right NO hop flavour whatsoever...[crying] WTF???[pinched] [alien]
PB2 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Weird....[sideways] Do you have a cold? Were the hops fresh?
Muddy Waters Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Are you sure you tried the right batch? [biggrin]
ChrisM8 Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 no i don't have a cold & yes it was the right batch (duh!)[bandit] definitely weird...maybe it's still too green? anyway, i'll be leaving it for another couple of weeks before trying it again...[annoyed] the hops were "new season" pellets from CraftBrewer...they smelled fresh enough... oh well...have to double them next time![lol]
PB2 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Hop aroma should be at its peak when the beer is young.
ChrisM8 Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 i think i bottled it too early...& started drinking it too early too![innocent] the sediment on the bottom of the bottles is crazy...but the hop flavour is there, not quite as much as i would've liked/hoped but there nonetheless! i was going for a brew similar to a james squire ipa...close, but not quite! so it seems the yeast was masking the flavour...all good now![bandit]
