Barnie
Hi All What is the best way to clean the PET bottles. Glass is easy throw into dishwasher then sterilise with boiling water before using. With my PET bottles I rinse with tap water after use then soak for a day in pink cleaner then rinse. The problem is that when rinsing our tap water smells strongly of chlorine still. Should I rinse with some boiled water or buy some no rinse steriliser. Barnie
Muddy Waters
Hi Barnie, I rinse mine out with tap water after drinking and them store them with the lids on. Just prior to bottling I give them a squirt of iodophor solution and bottle away. Works for me [biggrin]
PB2
If you can smell the chlorine, it is likely to taint the beer. Bottles only need be clean and bright.
Stewie Rivers
Gday Barnie. I follow the coopers booklet on cleaning and haven`t had a bad beer so far out of six brews. Rinse bottles and then add a capful of bleach fill to the top and stand for an hour at least. rinse with cool boiled water. Easy.
andrewk5
hey i was just wondering, i just brought some no rinse sanitiser, the guy at the LHBS said pour the solution bottle to bottle to sanitise all of them, but should i let the bottles dry completly before bottling or is the tiny bit of solution left in each bottle ok & wont affect the brew in the bottle? PB2
What is the active ingredient? I rinse all equipment with warm to hot water, regardless of the type of sanitiser used.
andrewk5
hey paul active ingredient is 'hydrogen peroxide' (2.95%)
PB2
It performs an oxy-bleaching action and should break down to just Oxygen and water, losing its effectiveness with time. The active ingredient in Coopers Sanitiser is Sodium Percarbonate - in water, it breaks down to hydrogen peroxide and soda ash [biggrin]
ozale
Hi Barnie, have you tried leaving your tap water standing in a container (bucket etc.)for a while to see if it looses the chlorine smell, has worked for me
