Coopers Dad
Hi All Put down Imperial Stout yesterday 2 cans stout 1 can lager 1kg dextrose. Bubbling away last night. Foaming over this morning as expected but have lost 2ltrs! Can anyone tell me how much more I may lose before bottling?
PB2
You may only need to clean one bottle  If the temp, from when you first mixed it, has dropped the volume will be less. It's a persistant "foam factory" but you should see things settle down by tomorrow morning. Can't imagine you will lose more than another 1/2 litre. Must admit that I didn't take a lot of notice of actual losses.
Coopers Dad
Thanks Paul Got home tonight and has stopped foaming over. Still only 2ltrs lost. It is still puffing through the airlock. Would it be Ok to clean airlock and refill with clean water?
PB2
Yes you can give it a clean if you like. Just put some cling wrap over the top while the lid is removed. My preference, for this sort of heavy brew, is racking to another vessel once the foam has collapsed. Mainly for convenience, really - the first fermenting vessel cleans up more easily if it is cleaned as soon as possible.
