c22369
Hi Paul the new packaging for the Coopers brewing sugars is excellent. I like the idea of the recipes on the box. I just have a question on the approx alcohol contents quoted for the various sugars. Coopers brewing instructions indicate that 0.5% should be added to the calculated alcolhol % by volume, to account for the priming sugar when bottling brews. Does the approx alcohol content quoted on the brewing sugar packaging include or exclude the 0.5% allowed when bottling. I keg my beers & gas via a CO2 bottle. Thanks Brett
PB2
The approx percentage alcohol figures are on the assumption that the brew will go through a secondary fermentation. So deduct 0.5% if you are force carbonating.

Peter in the ACT
B1, For your info. What I do to make up for the reduced % of alc which is caused by not second fermenting is to add an extra 100-200 grms of dextrose at the begining of fermentation. I also only ferment at 21 ltrs. I reckon a BE2 plus 200grm dextrose @ 21 litres brings the brew around 5% or a little over. I force carbonate with CO2. Of course some may prefer the lower % of alc. c22369
Thanks for the info Peter - I'll try the same. Some of my mates prefer a mid strength beer so I was going to try the recipe in the latest Coopers newsletter. I'll add 200g dextrose to the 500g light malt which should acheive the desired result.
