Gazz
Can anyone tell me if you can use Sodiumhypochlorite to sanitise your bottles and brew gear instead of Coopers Sanitiser or Metabisulphite.
loftboy
Can anyone tell me if you can use Sodiumhypochlorite to sanitise your bottles and brew gear instead of Coopers Sanitiser or Metabisulphite. Sodium hypochlorite (common household bleach), is a very effective sanitiser. I use on the fermenter & brewing gear all the time, but have yet to use it on bottles. I can't see why not, providing you rinse thoroughly. If you are going to use bleach for sanitising, make sure that it is plain/unscented. BTW, Coopers Sanitiser is Sodium Percarbonate, which is exactly the same active ingredient used in Nappysan & the like. I'm going to try a generic unscented brand when my Coopers bottle runs out. Gazz
Cheers Loftboy. The sodiumhypochlorite I have is plain and unscented so I think I will give it a try.
Luke
Hi Gazz, You could also try a no-rinse sanitiser like Iodophor. Saves a lot of time. I've had no problems in 2 years. Cheers, Luke.
