Ratboy
Why is Coopers Light Malt Extract so difficult to dissolve ? Without (almost) boiling it that is.
PB2
G'day Ratboy, Coopers Light Dry Malt Extract (LDME) is a very fine powder (spray dried) and Hydroscopic - as such, it clumps very easily. Never add Coopers LDME to a mix that is warm/hot and giving off water vapour as it will clump!! I find the best way to dissolve Coopers LDME is: Place the LDME in a drip dried fermenter. Add 2 litres of hot/warm water. Immediately pick up the fermenter and swirl the contents around. You should see the LDME dissolve in approx 15 seconds.[/list:u] I have found that the above technique works for quantities of LDME up to 1.5kg. This works equally well for Brew Enhancer 2 which contains 250g of LDME.
