Greg B
I just put down a Brewmaster Series Wheat beer, and I saw on the yeast packet that it had a 'W' stamped on it. Does that 'W' stand for 'Wheat', and does the Wheat beer have a special wheat beer yeast? I had wanted to throw a culture from an Erdinger in it, but my Erdinger yeast didn't fire. Thanks, Greg B. PB2
The yeast supplied with the Brewmaster Wheat Beer will give subtle wheat characteristics. However, if you are after more overt phenolic, clove, spicy, tart characters you may want to grab a WYEAST pack from your home brew specialist store - 3056, 3068, 3333, 3463, 3522 are just some of the many wheat beer yeast strains available. kiwiposs
Hate to give credence to the competition here, but if you want to do a commercially available home brew that has very strong wheaty characteristics try Cascade Golden Harvest Lager
PB2
Interesting...it is actually the Cascade Spice Ghost Draught that claims to be "a zesty wheat inspired draught". I find this amusing as the list of ingredients on the side of the can does not include any wheat, malted wheat or wheat syrup. As for the Cascade Golden Harvest Lager...it has all sorts of claims on the can but nothing referring to wheat character and no wheat ingredients. A few months ago, I presented all four Cascade variants to our regular Tuesday morning taste panel, taking care not to let anyone know what they were tasting until after the fact. After hearing nothing but negative comments I revealed the empty cans...all were relieved to see that they weren't Coopers products.
rossm
Yes Paul!! Go Coopers!!! I have a mate who is a Coopers man but tries a few of the others from time to time, trying one of them from time to time saves me having to suffer my way through thirty stubbies of it! I have always been a coopers bitter man, but have tried the pale, heritage bitter and Heritage Sparkling Ale, Plus a few other coopers brews, can't go past it I reckon, I have a couple of heritage bitters conditioning at the moment, I didn't have my records in order and drank a few stubbies of what I now believe were heritage bitter that I had missed and left at the back of the shelf for a bit longer (extra month) and it was bloody beautiful! Go Coopers!!!
