Propagating hop plants?

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has some wild hops growing in his garden, and the flowers should be ready for harvesting in about a month or so. However, I'd also love to plant some for myself, but I don't really know how to go about doing it. According to HomeBrewTalk, you can simply cut some bottom vines at the end of the season and bury them, after which they should sprout in the spring. Does anyone see any problems with this? The Finnish winter is long and cold, mind you. Or should I just wait until spring and cut some rhizomes for myself then? Or is it possible to store rhizomes over winter in a freezer? Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated.

you should have some level of success either way, you may need to take a number of 'cuttings' to ensure one takes or just grab a Rhizome,

You can store Rhizomes in the crisper of your fridge over winter no problems, not the freezer though I dont think... fridge is good enough anyway, I have a victory in there I havnt planted yet.
