wilfw
I'm wanting to do a coopers stout but don't know whether to do the Original Series Stout or the Brewmaster Irish Stout. What is the difference between the two to give me an idea which I would prefer?
Soundawake
I have not brewed either but I've had feedback from a few friends as well as online posts on homebrew forums that the original series stout is really really good and in general its preferred to the Irish stout. GrahamB8
Ive made a few OS Stouts and only one Irish, by the time you have added some spec grains and other adjuncts theres nothing in it. If I was making a kit and kilo I would probably go with the Irish
Muddy Waters
For a simple stout that ages very well I'd strongly recommend an old recipe from PB2 to replicate the Cooper's Best Extra Stout. 1 Can of Cooper's dark ale 1 can of Cooper's stout 1 kg of dextrose Re-cultured Cooper's yeast or both the kit yeasts Made to 23L It is a very volcanic fermentation so use a big fermentor (the DIY fermentor will do) or make it up to about 18L and then gently top it up with cooled boiled water after a few days when the krausen has backed off a bit. wilfw
I Have tried both with white labs 004 yeast ,if a Guinness is what your after go the Irish with a kilo of dark malt Guinness is the sort of thing I'm after, so I'll probably go with your suggestion. Thanks.
