Teej
Firstly, hello all - I can tell I'm probably gonna be spending quite a bit of time here, having apparently caught the brewing bug. I'm brewing my first batch, the OS lager, and am on day 4 currently. I'm a little worried about it being too cold here on the English coast - the beer is around 16-17 degrees C currently. Pitched at 23-24, then over the first 2 days it cooled off and was stable at 18, but now as a cold snap has hit it has lost that extra degree or two. I know the yeast is really an ale yeast, with a range of 18 - 30something degrees. Do I need to worry about warming it up a bit? I'm aware that brewing at a cooler temp will just slow things down, which I'm fine with, but don't want the yeast to become inactive due to the low temp! Guest
Hi Thomas and welcome to the forum At that temp you should be right if you just wrap a heavy blanket or old sleeping bag around it. You really don't want it dropping any further.
Teej
Thanks Bill - it's now got a sleeping bag wrapped round it. All the best
