OS Lager

Happy new year everyone. I was given a lager kit for xmas, having made this in the past with the ale yeast I thought I'd have a go using safalager w-34/70 (I have a fridge set up to keep low temps for lagers). The packet says to pitch the yeast at 12 - 15 deg so I've been busy making ice to use to get the temp down when I make it. Instead could I mix the ingrediants together, put the lid on the fermernter and put it in the fridge until the temp has dropped enough then pitch the yeast? I'd say it would have to be in the fridge a few hours to get the temp down enough.

Cheers

Scott

HNY to you too Scott.

With my Lagers I usually pitch into warm wort. ie anything from 18C-24C then just put the FV in the fridge set the temp to recommended fermenting temp and leave it.

This way premotes yeast multiplication and fermentation without any ill effects.

Otherwise if you pitch at say 12C then I'd suggest you either pitch 2 packets of yeast or make a starter.
