RossB1
I put down a beer using the US Safale yeast on wed 21st September. The air-lock bubbled away vigorously until sun 25th. Since then it has bubbled slowly, and still is, and today is sat 1st Oct. This is the 10th day, is this normal?
RoaldV
Hi Ross, and welcome to the forums. I'm a new brewer as well, however from what I've read on the forums, the activity of an airlock means nothing. The way you know your first fermentation is completed is by checking the SG, and then again everyday after until you get the same SG two days in a row. Muddy Waters
Yep, Ignore your airlock (or even better throw it in the bin and use glad wrap). Trust your hydrometer - I'd suggest taking an OG before pitching then check your gravity at day 7 & 9. If your readings suggest it is finished go ahead and bottle at day 14. Once it's been a week or so take a sg reading, if it's the same the next day you're good to bottle it, though waiting a few days will improve your beer.
