Rob (Guinness Man)
Hello all, Just wondering what's the difference between the sugar that comes in the Coopers Kit and normal white sugar? I know its quality Aussie sugar but sugar is sugar no? Cheers, Rob
Canadian Eh!L
hi rob, the sugar you are refering to in the kit is most likely corn sugar(dextrose). it is better for brewing beer because it does not give off those cidery flavours (as much) that homebrew beer was often associated with. chad
LeonardC2
Basically,"table sugar" is more complex & doesn't get utilized by the yeast as much as "simple" sugars. Such as honey, glucose,& dextrose. They ferment out more completely, giving better flavors. With the exception of honey, which can add pleasant tones to the over-all flavor. Muddy Waters
Hi Rob, No, sugar isn't always just sugar. Coopers Brewing Sugar contains 80% Dextrose + 20% Maltodextrin .
Kearnage
The Coopers brewing sugar is 80% dextrose, 20% maltodextrin. 'Table' sugar is sucrose. Check the FAQ's for the Coopers fermentable range contents. Dan Edit: Muddy, we simply have to stop doing this...
