JamesM14
I'm currently living in Sydney but it seems there are no proper strong ale's/lagers. Apart from the expensive (but worth it) Cooper's Vintage the easily available local brews(everything not Coopers) are about as strong as water and the taste is beyond nasty. Will Coopers ever release a strong version of its excellent Sparkling Ale at 7% abv that is easy to find and buy in pubs like the current Sparkling (but stronger)? TamsynM
o.O Stronger? Damn, that stuff knocks me on my arse well enough as it is. You should try looking around for 'barley wine' - it's wine strength beer (more or less) and should knock anyone on their butt =). Do you brew? PB2
We put emphasis on making beer to style - with a corresponding alcohol level to suit the style. One of Thomas' first brew recipes, "A brew" was an IPA - from what I can determine. It may have been as high as 7.6%ABV. This could be an idea for developing a recipe for making it yourself [biggrin]
JamesM14
Its fine, I've discovered Coopers Extra Stout. I prefer strong dark ales anyway so this and some Vintage Ale are perfect. Sydney is looking better and better! As an aside, I remember reading somewhere that Coopers stout was originally brewed to around 6.7%. Is this true? PB2
When I first started at the brewery, July 2002, Best Extra Stout was brewed at 6.8%ABV.[biggrin]
