Andris
Hey all, I was wondering which one has less roasted barley (burn dark bread) taste - Coopers Stout or Irish one? I'm sorta planning on RIS 3can rocket (dark ale + stout + lager or maybe IPA? and some sugar) - making xmass brew for 2011 and sorta want less of that "guiness-burnt" taste in a brew. Idea being that if it comes out with at least 8% ABV, it will take a good of a half year to become anything drinkable and probably 9 months to be good, hence early January brew for next xmass. PB2
Original Series Stout contains roasted malt.
Andris
Rite, but which one has less of those "stout-guiness-burnt" characteristics? Irish or Coopers Original?
PB2
I developed the Irish Stout to be somewhere between Guinness and Murphy's Irish Stout. So I guess the Original Series Stout would be your choice - the difference between the two is masked somewhat in such a big recipe as RIS. Andris
Thank you Paul, what do you think about substituting Lager can with IPA?
PB2
I think it's a good idea to make the brew as per the recipe then tweak it after you've tasted the result.[rightful] IPA will give more bitterness but not sure what the hop aroma will do if anything at all??
