brianc6
as many of the experienced brewers on here mate would tell ya if you take a reading over 2-3 days in a row and it's unchanged it should be all good to bottle [cool]
carls
sweet thanks, do you know if it means the alc will be lower than normal with a high reading?
PB2
G'day Carl, what Brian says is generally correct, stable SG readings over a couple of days = FG. However, 1018 is very high if you have used a 1.7kg beer kit + 1kg Brewing Sugar mixed to 23litres. Some potential causes for this reading: >Insufficient healthy yeast at the start - note the Best Before date on the can. >Ferment temperature too low - needs to be at or above 18C (our ale yeast may tick along very slowly at 16C). >Hydro is inaccurate - check it in water. >Hydro wasn't floating in the sample - this might sound obvious but many brewers have made this mistake before. Although, not such a big deal if you are planning to bottle into PETs - if they become over-pressured, gas can be easily released from this style of bottle.
