WeirdBeer
Hi guys, Can anyone tell me what the ABV of Irish stout made to recipe would be? Its the Kit 500 Grams DME 300 Grams dextrose. Thanks!
Muddy Waters
Howdy WeirdBeer, My guesstimations would put that at around 4% if made to 23L.
WeirdBeer
Hmmmm. I may have to up the dry malt then. I wanna get it to 5%. I mean, are we drinking? Or are we drinking? [lol] BTW - I made the APA with the BE2 but I added 1oz of Golding hops boiled for 20 mins to the wort. It came out fantastic. Best kit I've made. I put down another one today with 1oz of cascade hops this time. I can't wait to try the difference.
Kearnage
Keep in mind the 4% figure does not include the alcohol produced if you carbonate in bottles (an extra 0.5 or so), it is what you would get if you kegged and force carbonated. If you up it to 1 KG LDM you will be looking at 5.3% or so after secondary bottle fermentation. Alternatively, the original recipe at 20 L will give you about 5%.
