ChrisM8
G'day all! going to put down some kind of "original" IPA recipe/brew next week (when my dark ale is finished fermenting & ready for bottling...[cool]) Here's the plan... I have - 1 can of Cooper's Real Ale. 500g Light DME. 1kg Cooper's BE2. ...and... about 75g of Fuggles hop pellets. very happy about that line-up! [joyful] So, what I was wondering was...steeping/boiling the hops...how much & for how long? My idea was to boil 25g with some DME & H2O for 20min. Another 25g for 10 min. & dry hop the last 25g in the 3rd week of fermentation. Thoughts, suggestions? Muchas Gracias! [bandit]
Luke
Hey Chris, Maybe boil the 50 grams at 10 mins and dry hop in the 1st week of fermentation rather than the 3rd (She'll be all over in 2 weeks!). Otherwise sounds very good![cool]
ChrisM8
thanks for the reply Luke! I want this to be fairly bitter [devil] so, how bitter do you reckon the 50g for 10m will be...? as for the 3 week thingy, I always leave my brews in for three weeks now (a trial & error empirical finding[rightful]) they are always ready to drink pretty soon after [joyful] & I don't have any stockpile, so that works for me...maybe I'll dry hop in the second week then...? Cheers [alien]
Luke
Hey Chris, You'll probably get another 10 or more IBU's when boiling 50g of Fuggles for 10 mins. I would still dry hop earlier, just so they settle out by the third week.
