figless
I started fermenting my first lager last weekend. I'm using a coopers european lager kit with 1kg BE2. The problem is... the fridge i'm using is small, so my 'fermenter' is a 20L plastic jerry can. I've used the full coopers tin and all 1kg of the BE2 - the OG was 1.060... After 3 days ferment the gravity is 1.020 - still tastes very sugary though! Is this OG too high for a lager? Could this create too much alcohol that will kill the remaining yeast? MatR1
Your OG sample must have had undissolved sugars which made the reading high. 3 days isn't long enough either. Check it again in 10 days. What temp are you fermenting at?
DKAngel
ive just pitched mine at 21c and its og was 1044, does that sound right?
MatR1
I don't check OG and only done a couple with kit & BE2 so can't be exactly sure but sounds about right.
PB2
A 1.7kg beer kit + 1kg of Dry product mixed to 23 litres should give an OG around 1036 to 1038.
