IsaacBeers
I don't usually use white sugar/dextrose/maltodextrin in my brews, but I noticed this in my local IGA and thought it might be handy to have in the cupboard for pumping up the gravity now and then. Got it home and noticed the 'packed on' date was back in Dec 2010! The product is "Cane Sugar 75% and Maltodextrin (Corn Starch) 25%" I figure the cane sugar probably lasts forever but what about the maltodextrin? Should I just chuck it out? PB2
Providing the packaging has not been compromised, it will be as good as the day it was packed. It's essentially icing sugar, just with extra anti-caking agent (maltodextrin).
IsaacBeers
Thanks for the reassurance! Next time I stock up on "ABV increaser" I'll go for some BE1, promise
