ChristianN
Has anyone had one of these? I'm wanting to brew a clone, any help? I had a look around of the interwebs for a clone, I only found AG clones. Any ideas for something with readily available coopers products? I think my LHBS has a Thomas Coopers Wheat kit that I can get, but that's where my ideas cease.
ChristianN
Ok - so I've found out that it uses Cascade and Williamette hops. Any help with fermentables? Perhaps a liquid malt? And yeast? Kit yeast ok? If so, so I can set up my temp control, what temp does it like? Lower temps? Cheers!
MatR1
2 tins of coopers liquid wheat, 250grms - 500grms Dry wheat malt WB-06 yeast hopping to suit. Ferment at 18 - 21C (can go as high as 24C)Depending on what character you want the yeast to give. I've found 18 is more to the clove side of esters with less banana / bubblegum. Higher you go, less clove more banana / bubblegum esters. Mid range gives a good balance. Cheers, Mat.
ChristianN
Awesome! Question: I'm assuming you mean to use this in addition to the Wheat Beer kit?
MatR1
Nope. Instead of. You can use the kit if you like just take out 1 of the cans. You wouldn't really want to add any more hops though as it will be too bitter for a wheat. This way you can just bitter to your liking with the hops you like.[cool]
ChristianN
Okay. Cool. I read on the website that it used alchemy for bittering and the other hops for flavoring. Say 10mins at flameout for the hops?
MatR1
Flameout will generally just give you aroma. This will probably be overpowered by the yeast esters in a wheat. Just thinking I have done a brew like this.. 1.70 kg\tCooper's Wheat Kit (15.8 EBC) 1.50 kg\tWheat Liquid Extract (15.8 EBC) 0.25 kg\tCaramalt (Joe White) (49.3 EBC) 5.00 gm\tWilliamette [4.30 %] (15 min) 5.00 gm\tCascade [5.50 %] (15 min) 15.00 gm\tWilliamette [4.30 %] (5 min) 8.00 gm\tCascade [5.50 %] (5 min) 1 Pkgs\tHefeweizen Ale (White Labs #WLP300) Not bad but did not get much hop flavour through. Next time I would just go for 2 x wheat cans and up the 15min additions to get some flavour. Were you planning to use the kit? Let me know & I can work it out for you. Cheers, Mat. ChristianN
MatR1 You're a gentlemen and a scholar. I'll get ingredients from LHBS over the weekend :D I'm doing this brew for a friend coming over from the states and I thought I'd brew something close to her favorite. I'll let you know how it turns out!
MatR1
No Problems.. I wouldn't worry about the Caramalt though so don't bother with that.
