Hops/Steeping etc for dummies

Hello brewers

 

Thus far I've not used any Hops or Grains or done any hopping or steeping whilst making homebrew.

 

If there was a "Hopping and Steeping for Dummies" book, what would it tell me about this process?

 

As far as I can tell, you get little pellets, crack them, put them in hot water, strain out the pellets so you have the hot water in the fermenter and then proceed with the rest of the brew?

 

HELP.
