NickB12
I was wondering if anyone had tried the esva recipe with the commercial yeast as compared to the can yeast, how much difference does the commercial yeast make? I am thinking of doing this as my 3rd brew, have irish ale and old spiced in the bottles so far.
Kearnage
I've brewed it once, using both yeasts... The commercial recultured yeast started off fine, then conked out at an SG of 1030. I chucked in the kit yeast, which did the trick and finished off the brew. It's a cracker of a beer (my best brew according to mates who have had it). That doesn't really answer your question, but does suggest it should work out fine with one, the other, or both! Try and pitch at a higher rate as it does have a very high OG - so two sachets or a large and healthy reculture of the commercial yeast.
