Tythataussieguy
Sorry if it seems like I am spamming the boards today guys but really curious about a lot of things. I was just stuffing round with my hydrometer I put it in reasonably warm water and it sits at approx 0.920 where as in the cold water it sits at 1.020 is this normal? Guessing I will just have to subtract .20 whn trying to estimate alcohol contents?
MatR1
Hydrometers read correctly at 20C. If you can get yourself some water that is 20C then try it in that. Should read 1.000. Warm water = less dense = hydro sinks more Cold water = more dense = hydro floats more There are corrections for temp. However you will mainly start out brewing ales at around 20C so should be fairly close each time.
