Squishy
Fellas I bought a Coopers Euro Lager and it came without Yeast! I was wondering what woud happen if i used an Ale yeast with it instead?? The main reson is that i am moving to North QLD and am gunna find it real hard to keep my temps low. I have bought a Brewcellars lager yeast to use in this brew but am a big European beer fan and am wanting to keep brewing it!
PB2
Squishy, call or e-mail the homebrew hotline with your postal details and we will send out some yeast customerservice@coopers.com.au or 1300 654 455 You need to find a way to ferment at temps below 20C if you want to get the clean European Lager style. I have my fermenting tub in an old fridge. Here is a recent thread on temp control Also some ideas in Brewing FAQs
BenT1
PB2, Do you run the fridge? or is it simply used as a cooler environment? If you do run the fridge did you modify the fridge in anyway?
PB2
My method for temp control requires a bit of fiddling intitially but it works for me - a timer switch to cycle the fridge or the heat pad (that sits inside) and adjust the duty cyle depending on the ambient temp. Mind you, I hardly ever hook it up to the heat pad! There are electronic temp' controlling devices available at HBSs... If you get a fridge that does not work you can place 2 litre PET bottles filled with ice in with the brew.
