Rob44
Gday mob. I recieved an email the other day from a friend. I thought id post it up here and see what others thought about the matter, if anything. Wouldn't it be nice if we had an abundance of locally owned microbreweries providing diverse premium beers to pubs all over Australia, but instead we have a duopoly of multinational companies controlling 80% of the market by buying out craft brewies, masquerading as them and squeezing them out by placing contracts on the taps by giving rebates on the volume sold to the publicans, these foreign owned companies own control 95% of the taps in Australia and this is legal because of a trade practices act put in place in the 60's to allow Australian breweries to grow and compete on a global scale, now they are being held back by it. Meanwhile you've got people lining up at a pub staring at 3 taps with VB on them not realising they're being taken advantage of, their choices are being limited and just convincing themselves it's good aussie beer. King Ruddager
I always "enjoy" pointing out to people that aren't aware that, although it may look like a given pub has a wide variety of beer on tap, they're actually all owned or brewed under license by Lion. MarkC
There's a number of pubs in Adelaide that have all, or most, of their taps devoted to craft beers, and often with an emphasis on SA beers. We only ever go to these pubs for sessions, the megaswill pubs only attract us if there's a particularly good band playing. Megaswill is brewed with a lot of sugar, we find it tends to give us headaches, in addition to being rubbish.
