Waylon
Im about to do a simple low av brew tonight, Not sure if a grain steep is needed I had 40gm left of amerillo ive got also got at hand light munich grain and medium crystal grain to steep but not sure if its needed, any thoughts or should I just keep this one simple Ive got lots grains to steep if needed and light dry malt at hand Is a grain steep needed for extra value? My idia was to do; 2 x 1.7kg Australian pale ale cans 2kg ldm extract 5min amerillo boil and 30min steep 3xkit yeast 50 litres
Waylon
if this brew is about 3-8 to 4% AV ide be happy... any thoughts Still think maybe grain steep may make better flavour and head as im stretching the apa can 1x 250gm light munich malt 1x 250 medium crystal malt
antiphile
Estimations: Using 2 x 1.7kg Australian pale ale cans 2kg ldm extract 40g 5min amarillo boil and 30min steep 50 litres OG 1.036 FG 1.009 ABV 3.8% after bottling) IBU 23.4 (a bit low? Aim for 30 to 40?) You could add maybe 300 to 400g of a grain, but an APA is not really a malt-forward brew, but there's already quite a bit of malt and LDM there. Maybe add 500g of dex instead. But it's the low bitterness I'd be more concerned about.
