Classic,  event you attended was probably the a ConFest (short for Conference Festival  'An exploration of alternatives)'.  Now we are talking hippies.  And it is still held annually run by the Down to Earth Co-op in Victoria.  I have been to a few myself.   They aren't music festivals as much as they are alternative culture festivals.  I had a very good time.  😉

My favourite Don Dunstan memory was of an ABC interview after he had released his cookbook.  He was explaining to the interviewer about how one should cook a 'stir fry' .  The interviewer looked puzzled.

" First, you take a wok ..." Dunstan said and the ABC interviewer interjected " What's a wok ?"

That would have been 1977.  Only bleeding edge foodies knew what a wok was !  Now I reckon every kitchen in Australia would have one.  How much the world has changed.

But enough nostalgia... OK, one more.  This is in my opinion the best Beatles cover ever recorded.  The late Doug Parkinson is on lead tambourine and vocals.  Doug had a great barber and a fantastic  voice - which is more than can be said for his backing vocalists.  They don't make them like this anymore...

Hi @Thirsty Jim You are probably right, as I said I was employed by the Berri Hotel as part of the security, I used to run a Gym called Riverland Health Studio & co-incidentally Don Dunstan was opening the new Berri Memorial Caravan Park in 1972 ( probably other duties as well. We were holding the Australian Powerlifting Championships in the Beer Gardens of the Hotel & towards the end of the event I noticed him in the audience & asked him if he would present the trophies & he said "I would be delighted to".

And he did, marvellously, I still have mine 2nd in the Light Heavyweight Class.

In spite of Don's preferences he was an gentleman, well dressed, polite & always willing to help out. Years later he opened a Restaurant in Norwood called "Don's Table" with his male partner & I was to find myself there selling him advertising, he even remembered me from the Weightlifting event.

The event - Confest was a bit of a blast & of course we spent the most of the time escorting drunks & other's affected by the hop looking plant they were smoking out of the event. I haven't been to anymore of them.

Cheers

One of the most memorable lines in any movie is attributed to The Sound of Music.

For all the wrong reasons. 😂 Google is your friend. If I put a link to it here it'd be taken down pronto I'd imagine.

Warning coarse language. It's bloody rude just so you know.

What does Mother Superior say to Maria in Sound of Music?

OVER the years, thousands have snickered at an unwittingly amusing scene in The Sound of Music: when the exasperated Mother Superior asks Maria, ''What is it you can't face?

Well, it's not really just listening and it was last night, not now, but has anyone watched Pennyworth?

The premise is, it's the backstory of Alfred, Bruce Wayne's (Batman) butler and his life in an alternate London. He's an ex-SAS (British) guy from the poor side of the tracks and it's well-written, shot very well and moves along all the way through 2 series.

Bit strange it hasn't been more public but I guess in these PC days the environment is a bit non-PC. You know, treating women with respect, men being men etc. But there ARE strong female roles and lots of plot shenannigans to keep thigns interesting.

Recommended.
