PhilboBaggins
Wow! I had never brewed an IPA until 5 weeks ago, when the LHBS guy convinced me to give it a go when I said I wanted something with enough flavour to blow my freakin' head off. He warned me about the bitterness, and I was a little worried but crikey! I've just popped one this arvo and this may overtake the English Bitter as my favourite kit of all time! [love] [love] [love] [love] My recipe went like this (my next will be a partial mash[lol]): IPA Can 1kg LDM 100g Medium Crystal 250g Dex 5g Cascade & 5g NS @ 15min 5g Cascade & 5g NS @ 5min 5g Cascade & 5g NS @ 0min (for 30min) 10g Cascade & 10g NS Dry Commando-Style @ Day 4 FG was 1.009 I am impressed, to put it mildly. I gave the old man one, and it wasn't his cup of tea, but I'll be doing plenty more of these!! So much aroma and flavour, and a kick which I reckon will be wicked in summer. Way to go again Coopers! GrahamB8
[biggrin] I prefer the nuttiness from the bitter but the IPA is a very close second.
PhilboBaggins
I don't know if this is a brief infatuation or what, but I used to smoke fairly heavily, and since then I've enjoyed food and drink with a real kick. Full on chilli head, espresso lover, curry devourer. I wish I could appreciate subtlety like many others seem to, but may have ruined it for myself. Bring on the flavour!!! *****
Wow! I had never brewed an IPA until 5 weeks ago, .....and this may overtake the English Bitter as my favourite kit of all time! [love] [love] [love] [love] I hear you Phil. I kegged my first English Bitter 7 weeks ago and I was pulling beers from it within two weeks, it was fabulous and I had to try and conserve it to let it age. The next beer I kegged was an IPA, four weeks ago. Last night I sampled a 500ml bottle of this brew and I was blown away by the flavour and aroma. I am trying to leave this keg for 6 weeks before I tap it but I tell you I was close last night. It is going to be a struggle. Mine is only a middy @ 4% Here it is: Coopers IPA 700g LDM 100g Dextrose 100g Crystal 120 100g Crystal 270 15g Willamette steeped for 30 minutes 25g Willamette Dry Hopped day 5 12g SO4 Yeast Next up I am putting down another EB and then a Stella hopped IPA
Muddy Waters
I agree that the Coopers IPA is great. I rarely buy kits but when I do I invariably go for the IPA. I've successfully tinkered with the kit via ample hop additions in the past but these days I tend to just make PB2s fabulous Motueka Slam. Simple yet very tasty [love]
