Heritage Lager - Any suggestions?

*****

Recommended Posts

I have the TCS lager and a can of TC light malt extract. My favorite lager is Boags (have never tasted a Cooper's) but I do like most premium lagers.

I am looking for advice as to whether I should use the kit as is or whether I should add some hops.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you will get a Boags Premium clone using these cans. Nevertheless, Paul may give you some good ideas for something similar......

If you are going to use both these cans then it wouldn't really hurt to throw in 250-300g Dex and if you want more hops then you could always dry hop it with some Saaz or something noble. POR would be another option but I think POR is best bittering not dry.

Not really after a clone, going by how poor XXXX gold tasted after sampling my Pale Ale the only place I will be drinking Boags Premium from now on will be when I am out for dinner.

I am keen to use some hops and just wondering whether the Heritage Lager would benefit from any additions.

I also have no idea about what hops I would like, but I always enjoy different beer e.g Fat Yak, Moo Brew Pils, Two Meter Tall. When it comes to wine I prefer Dry over Sweet Reds over whites, but that's probably irrelevant!

The LBS in Hobart doesn't stock Centennial and the one in moonah is far too expensive. If you need this I suggest getting a mail order and whilst doing so you can check the other hops available. However, I will admitt that Amanda in Hobart is very competitive on her yeast and hop prices.

Thanks Bill I will call in there Friday. I will use the Nelson Sauvin in my TCS Lager, and also pick up the Amarillo and Cascade as I have decided on the Fruit Salad Ale rather than the Ashes Ale as the follow up brew. So many recipes no wonder some home brewers are running multiple fermenters.

I'd suggest getting some Nelson Sauvin' date=' Cascade then. I reckon you'd like these if you like those beers. Amarillo and Centenial are quite nice too.[/quote']

I agree, ive used a nelson sauvin/cascade combo in a few batches I have done of the heritage lager, and it turned out to be a very tasty drop. Put it this way, they didnt last long!
