JohnR13
Hi All, I want to do a nice heavy stout (I've just bottled a ESVA as per recipe on here) and can't decide between the Toucan and the Russian Imperial in the recipe section. What ABV could I expect from the Toucan (Stout/Dark Ale/1kg Dextrose)? Is either brew easier to bugga up than the other? I have a 60lt tub so should be able to cope with the foam and will bottle it in the coopers heavy glass bottles. Thoughts appreciated. BTW I love the best extra stout from Coopers, but shouldn't drink it all the way through a game of footy! Cheers John[unsure]
SteveL
Have done the dark ale/stout toucan a few times, usually comes out about 6.5% ABV...incredibly simple to make and incredibly delicious! cheers

SteveL
Always done mine in the 18-20 degree range. Have used Nottingham yeast recently with great results, also no problems at all with Coopers yeast.

GrahamB2
You could try the Southwark Stout clone as suggested by PB2: 1.7kg OS Dark Ale beer kit 1.5kg TC Dark Malt 300g Roasted Barley 1kg Dextrose I haven't had a go myself, but I'm keen to try in the not to distant future (7.4%). Whatever you make, please post your results!
Muddy Waters
I'd go for the toucan John - Unless you want a very strong beer like the Russian. The toucan Best Extra recipe is on the strong and makes a great beer. I've made both and if my memory serves me correctly the toucan came out around 7% and the RIS was approaching 10%. Both benefit from years in the bottle rather than months (Sorry Weggl).
