GregT5
I was planning to put down PB2's Motueka IPA recipe but the LHBS didn't have any Motueka hops in stock when I was there. I have opted for Pacific Hallertau flowers instead after consulting the hop character wheel in the store as a substitute hop. Trawling through the posts here I can't find any reference to these hops, but plenty on "Hallertau". Are the Hallertau hops we buy here "Pacific" Hallertau hops and if you require the German Hallertau you have to specify that when you are buying them? This is just a query as I am not going back into Adelaide for a while so I will be using these hops anyway. I would be interested to hear any feedback on other brewer's experience & what they think about using them in this recipe. 1.7kg TC India Pale Ale kit 1kg LDM 40g Pacific Hallertau flowers dry hopped kit yeast 21 litres My apologies to Paul for messing with his recipe. Hairy
Pacific Hallertau hops are now called Pacifica. I assume this is to end the confusion that you stated in your post. I'd say that if you ordered Hallertau, you would expect to receive German Hallertau. If you wanted Pacific Hallertau then you would specifically order that. That's my uneducated opinion anyway.[innocent] I'm not sure if Pacifica is a direct substitute for Motueka but I'm sure it will be good. The NZ hops have a pretty good reputation. The Nelson Sauvin and Motueka hops seem to be widely loved around here. I'm yet to try Motueka but am looking forward to giving it a go. I've read that Pacifica will give a citrus / orange marmalade flavour so your recipe looks interesting. I wouldn't mind hearing how it turns out.
