Hairy
I haven't made this one but there is a recipe for a pilsner in the How to Brew section. A link is below: Pilsner You could play around with this depending on what you are after. Maybe up the bitterness slightly or dry hop some saaz. Canadian Eh!L
Hi David, I've made the pilsner recipe Hairy refers to. I just have tasted it after a month in the bottle. I find it a very good beer. It is clean and crisp like a lager should but it lacks in flavour and aroma. The next time I make this one I'll sock it with some late hops. If your looking for a German Pilsner hit it with Hallertau or Tettnanger. If you go for a Czech Pilsner hit it with Saaz. I might also increase the LDM to 1Kg and axe the dex. Having said al that it is good to try the recipe first then tweek it to your's after. Chad
Hairy
Pilsners tend to have a dry, crisp taste. I know that dex increases the alcohol content but does it also help create this "dry" taste? If not, what achieves this?
Guest
The term "dry" means that all the residual sugars are consumed by the yeast and turned into alcohol. So, considering Dextrose is fully fermentable, I would say that it will also create a dry beer if the correct ingredients were balanced for this purpose in the recipe. i.e. extra Malt would lesson the effect. Also by using certain yeast strains will help to make a beer dry eg. w34/
