Hairy
I'm curious as to what is everyone's favourite recipe. You know, the one that you would keep going back to make in between experimenting with other styles etc. Mine would have to be PB2's Fruit Salad Ale.[love] It's just a smooth, easy-drinking flavoursome ale that I can keep going back for more. Muddy Waters
Historically, I'd say Neil's Centenarillo Ale is a firm favourite of mine but I believe my recent Full Nelson Ale is set to become a repeat offender [love]
Hairy
I have just ordered some more Amarillo hops to give the Centenarillo a go. Hopefully I will have a new favourite after that.
Guest
My favourite is the same as Muddy's and as a matter of fact I will be kegging one tonight. I love Neill's Centenarillo. However, I usually add 250g Light Crystal (120) to the recipe. [love] [love] I also Like the extract version for Dr. Smurto's Golden Ale which is: 1 can Coopers LME 1 can Coopers Wheat Malt 250g Caramalt (or other light crystal) 20g Amarillo @ 60 15g Amarillo @ 15 min 15g Amarillo @ 5 min 15g Amarillo dry hop. Yeast US05 20L For a very basic recipe and an easy one to make, I also like: 1 x Coopers Sparkling Ale 1kg LDM 20g Citra Dry @ day 3/4 Yeast US05 21L Leave for 4 months to mature. I have a lot of recipes I am yet to try but it will be pretty hard to top the 2 first ones mentioned here I reckon.
Squishy
Mine is a toss up of a can blonde with 25g Saaz hop addition or PB2's world famous Smoty Ale[love] [love] [love] [love]
LeonardC2
My favorite so far is my Sunset Gold ale. It's basically the same as an APA. I can change the hop schedule,& turn it into an IPA as well! It's a toasty amber/orange color with a toasty bright malt flavor, enhanced by the spicy hops. 1 can OS Draught 3lbs (1.4kg) Munton's plain light DME 30g US Perle hops@20mins 15g Czech Saaz@ 10mins 15g Saaz@ -10 7g cooper's ale yeast in 1 1/2C starter See my thread "OS Draught additions" for the complete recipe[love]
weggl
Bill, Dr. Smurto's does not have Amarilo at 60 min. Would it not be over the trop with 60 min of that stuff? Weggl
Matty A
Have another look Warren. Bill; has listed the full extract recipe and is not using the can of Sparkling Ale. BTW, great beer[joyful]

TrueBrew
I'm guilty of loving the SMOTY Ale. Made my 3rd one in a row and have been using a second fermenter again so I could keep experimenting with new recipes. For me it's just the standard. My first batch has tested my self discipline to make it to the 6 week mark. Yes it's bitter, but man the aroma and the flavour hits the spot for my taste. weggl
Does this not say 20g Amarillo at 60 min? 1 can Coopers LME 1 can Coopers Wheat Malt 250g Caramalt (or other light crystal) 20g Amarillo @ 60 15g Amarillo @ 15 min 15g Amarillo @ 5 min 15g Amarillo dry hop. Muddy Waters
It sure does Warren - This is the extract version and it most certainly does have (and need) the 60min bittering addition. I'm a bit confused...wasn't it you questioning the 60 min addition? [unsure]

She'll be pretty ordinary without it [pinched]
#20
Hi guys, I would like to bump this thread. It's 2.5 yrs old and preferences may have changed and new recipes been discovered. What is your favorite recipe these days? Are you guys still hanging on to your old favorites, or have you found even greener grass on some other side? I started brewing just over 1/2 year ago, and have done just 7 batches. The last 2 are bottle conditioning now, and one of them is Neil's Centenarillo Ale. Can't wait to test it in a few days. Smell and taste from FV certainly upped my expectations. My guess is that this one is gonna be my favorite. If you were only allowed to brew 1 recipe for the rest of your lives. Which one would it be?
ben 10
Having moved to AG recently, I just make stuff up, generally enjoy it, then move on to something completely different for my next brew. Love it.
Hairy
Wow, a blast from the past. I started this thread after I had been brewing kits and bits for a while and was just starting to make the leap to extract brewing. I very rarely make the same brew twice and if I do I tweak it a little. I made the Fruit Salad ale a few times with minor variations and made the Centennarillo twice which was a great beer. Otherwise I make similar styles but not the same beer. If I had to choose one beer to make over and over it would have to be an AG American Pale Ale with Centennial and Amarillo. So it is similar to the Centennarillo but perhaps a little more bitter. It's a tough one though. I chose that one because it is a good drinker all year round. #20
Cool Hairy. You were probably around where I am now, or maybe a bit more experienced. But yeah. Hope I never need to choose . It's a tough call. Can't wait to try that Centenarillo though. My first attempt with unhopped extract.

Canadian Eh!L
My Favorite kit brew is the Big Island IPA. I sure you all know that though, eh? BTW, I was shock when I first thought that Hairy was actually starting a new thread! I must say i was disappointed it was an old one.
Otto Von Blotto
Having moved to AG recently' date=' I just make stuff up, generally enjoy it, then move on to something completely different for my next brew.Love it.[/quote'] That's exactly what I do. In a year and few months of AG brewing, I've only ever brewed the same recipe twice one time - that being the current batch of red ale in the FV which is the second time around for that one. I did brew essentially the same recipe on a few lagers I did in winter last year but these were continually being tweaked to try to get it how I wanted it. Anyway, I don't really have a favourite recipe. I enjoy pretty much all styles of beer .. I guess if I had to pick a top three they would be the SNPA clone, an AG porter I brewed last year, and the aforementioned red ale.
A-tron
I've been brewing now for 9 months and just put down brew #13. Also yet to double up. I plan on doing another scotch ale as per how to brew soon as I am down to 2 bottles (9months bottled.) Mmmmmm 9 months bottled. My favorite session beer would have to be my take on the ashes ale though. Might try more hops next time though. Alphington ale -Coopers Australian Pale can -1kg LDM -300g Dex -200g crystal -10g EKG & 5g Fuggles @ 15 & 8 -10g EKG flameout -Nottingham yeast sachet to 23l
SteveL
So simple, yet produces a blockbuster taste: English Bitter can, 1kg LDM, up to 45g of Bramling Cross hops, made to 21 litres. Usually throw in some crystal grains and carapils too. A very close second is a porter (and variants) based on: English Bitter, 300g choc malt, 100g roasted barley, 200g medium crystal, 1kg of LDM.
