JackBlack
Just pulled this from a website after trawling for a bit: 1.7kg Lager wort 500G light dry malt 250G corn syrup 12g Fuggles Hop Pellets 1.85kg Dextrose 15gm Premium Lager Yeast Now this is a good beer, especially for getting rowdy! Jus thinking how would the fuggles be done. Boiled, dry hopped?
StewartS2
From a quick look at the recipe: 1. Hops would be best for a short boil, say 15mins in 2L of boiling water mixed with 200g of your light malt. Strain into the fermentor. I would use Hallertau (most Elephant clones on the net do) as Fuggles is an English Ale hop. 2. 1.85kg is alot of dex (about 40% of your fermentables). I would maybe use less dextrose (say 1.5kg max), no maltodex (this will make the final beer too sweet), and up the light dry malt to 1kg. This will get you to 7.2% abv which is spot on for Carlsberg Elephant. 3. 15g looks a bit light on for the yeast. You will need to make a starter or pitch at least two packets. If you can get your hands on Danish Lager 2042 liquid yeast. Make sure you ferment at 10degC, leave ot in primary for at least 3 weeks, then leave the bottles for at least 3 months. Lagers are very challenging but well worth the effort! If all of the above is too hard maybe make an Ale to similar recipe but with US05 and ferment at 17degC.
