Muddy Waters
Now that John is on-board can we rightfully say that this move by Coles has caused "Global" outrage [lol]
Coopers Dad
Hi Guys My mate next door managers a Coles store. I will ask him the go but I know it is his bosses who make the calls. My wife was doing night fill for a while they had no music just ads and she told me she kept hearing Coopers Home Brew ads. How much did Coles charge for this? Is this why they have stopped stocking? Would Coles stop Coopers because Coopers would not or could not pay anymore? One more thing Liquorland,Vintage Cellars & 1st Choice all part of Coles Myer so do not shop there either!! JasonW2
Just got this from customer care(??!?) _________ Good Afternoon, Thank you for contacting us regarding the availability of Coopers Home Brew at Coles. We regret to learn of your disappointment with our decision to no longer range this product and would like to extend our apologies for any inconvenience you have been caused as a result. The decision to remove this product was not one made lightly. Our Merchandise Team is constantly reviewing our product range to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our customers. When selecting our merchandise, previous sales history and customer demand are assessed. This includes obtaining the right balance between Proprietary brands and Coles brand products. Every product, no matter what brand, has to earn the right to remain on our shelves. We set financial hurdles for Coles brand products as well as Proprietary products. Should the product not meet these hurdles, it is removed from sale. This rationale allows us to deliver innovation and increase space to categories with large sales growth. As a result of our assessment, the complete product range of Home Brew products, not just the Cooper brand, has been removed from most Coles and Bi-Lo stores. There are some stores however, where the customer demand for this range is high and will remain on the shelves. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Your comments have been referred to our Merchandise Team for their consideration and information. Yours Sincerely Rima Rustom Customer Care _____________________ I didn't even mention Coopers in my email to them - just referred to home brew products. Martyn
I got the same thing Jason but I did mention Cooper's and the fact they wouldn't even discuss it with the biggest homebrew supplies manufacturer in Australia. Carazy! Martyn.
Trusty1
Here's the response I got from MR. A Numbskull. I have gleaned from below that they are taking HB products off shelves where enough gear is not moved to make it financially viable. My Coles should be OK![biggrin] Good Afternoon, Thank you for contacting us regarding the availability of Coopers Home Brew at Coles. PB2
Good luck with your bargain hunting fellas. To everybody who still wants to buy brewing products at the local Coles store, I encourage you to make yourself known to the store manager and formerly voice your opinion - if you haven't done so already. Who knows, perhaps there's a glimmer of hope that they will reverse their decision on a national basis. [annoyed]
Muddy Waters
I had a polite word to my local manager when I first heard the news and he didn't really seem to give a rats either way and seemed a bit put out that he had to speak to me at all. Coles are too expensive so I only go there if Big W doesn't have what I want.

c779
Sent my "please explain" to Coles the day after the Coopers email came out. Got the same form letter in reply, no consideration for customer service, just profit. Coles was convenient being in a shopping centre where I had other things to get. I have a Foodland about the same distance away, still selling the good gear, so I haven't set foot in Coles since. Reckon I've even got the missus on side supporting my boycott! AndrewF111
Bugger Coles and Woolies. I can't understand why they don't want it when they want control over every bloody thing else! I am going to deal with a local home brew shop. After they left me with a full shopping cart that I could not pay for because they decided they don't want to accept visa debit cards, the $$$ greedy mongrels, I use IGA now that I have moved back to Syd. I know that some of you guys are restricted and that sucks big time

I think you have set a world record!!!! Member here since 1996 and this is post number 1! Welcome![biggrin] Although i said i was not going to shop at Coles or their susidiaries (there are thousands of them) there are things my youngest boy (17 monhts) eats that are only sold in Coles, when I was in there on the weekend, I noticed the clearing prices on all things brewing, bought 2 cans of Coopers Mexican Cervesa, $11 i think. I am weaning the young fella off anything sold exclusively at Coles and just won't go there unless I really, really have to.
PeterR8
Come on guys, is your glass half full or half empty? I got 20 cans at $7.50 each with useby up to the end of 2012, plus carb drops @ $2, brew enhancer @ $2.50. I'll be brewing and bottling for weeks! And there is no other store that sells homebrew products nearby? Off to the pub, no more homebrewing! Or no more new homebrewers! Or no more return homebrewers. So i think the glass is half full (I'm a half full kind of bloke), but it is emptying - FAST! Less homebrew (and homebrewers) in the world is a bad thing, I'm sure you agree? PeterR8
I live near Ballarat where homebrew kits are sold by Big W, K-Mart, 3 x Coles, 4 x Safeway and a specialist homebrew shop. That's 10 outlets sharing the (small) homebrew market. I'm happy if it drops back to 7... or 3!
rossm
...well good for you PeterR8, sounds a bit of an "I'm alright Jack and bugger you!" but each to his own if that's what gets you off, you are fortunate to have so many outlets so handy, we have Coles, Woolies and K Mart, which I believe is tied up with Coles anyway K Mart generally has a pretty small range of gear and Coles is dumping brewing products, leaves Woolies....when they have the gear. A couple of homebrew shops have opened at different times, but they couldn't compete with the supermarkets so they closed down, now the supermarkets have pushed the little blokes out they too are dumping the gear....makes you wonder if there is enough money in it to start with....oh yeah, the next closest place that you might get homebrew gear is 500Km's away!
