Peter in the ACT
Paul, Not that it matters a real great deal but can you advise if the alcohol percentage as advised on the packets of BE1 and BE2 etc, is that of the initial fermentation or after the brew has gone through a secondary fermantation as you would do with bottles and could do with kegs. My understanding is that a secondary fermentation adds about .2% to the initial alcohol content of the brew therefore kegged beer carbonated using co2 may have slightly less percentage of alcohol. This said I always add a further 100 gms of dextrose to the initial mix and only brew 21 litres to make up for any % shortfall. PB2
The APPROX ALCOHOL CONTENT table assumes that the brew has gone through secondary fermentation, primed with a simple sugar at the rate of 8g/l. Keep in mind that these figures are nothing more than a rough estimate of the %alc. The extra alcohol for priming is closer to 0.5%...you should see this adjustment to our "approximate percentage alcohol formula" (found in the under-lid instructions) in the next few months.
