Peter in the ACT
I have been advised that the 10th Dec for the Adelaide Club night has been changed to Feb 2010. I am sure we will be advised officially in due course. Don't worry Paul I will still be coming :D  Cheers Peter
PB2
No worries here  If I start to miss you I'll break out the lactose and do a line
Peter in the ACT
Paul, You are sooooooooooooo funny!! :P Actually I am going to use some lactose and put down my stout brew this weekend. 1 can orig stout 1 can dark ale 300gm dextrose 200gm lactose both yeasts plus, secondary ferment/carbonate in the keg. Requires about a good 8 weeks to condition and mellow. This is a tried and true recipe and a favorite of my regular stout drinkers, including me :D . A great nightcap. :D Cheers Peter. THIRSTY MATT
i wanna do a dark beer, stout or dark ale......which has the least "roastiness"???? im not huge on roastiness. cheers matt
PB2
But Thirsty; If you don't like burnt toast you don't burn your toast. Roasted Barley and/or Roasted Malt are the key ingredients in stout...
THIRSTY MATT
HAHA, thanks paul, ill do a dark ale this summer.........i enjoy a commercial one, so why not!! i gotta work tomorrow, but HAPPY FRIDAY TO YOU GUYS ANYWAY!!! matt
Luke
Tell me if I'm wrong Paul, but if Thirsty used something like Carafa Special it wouldnt impose a real roasty flavour cause it's been de-husked? Anyway, time to take a trip to the dark side Thirsty!!!!! BTW, I had some White Rabbit Dark Ale the other day (Owned by Little Creatures) and LOVED it! 8)
PB2
Is "roastiness" the term Thirsty is using to describe astringency?? Perhaps Carafa Special will do the job. Have seen it on-line at Craftbrewer but not sure of any other stores stocking it...
THIRSTY MATT
I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT YOU TWO ARE TALKIN ABOUT, but it seems my beer interests are at heart!!??! so thank you anyway! love matt xxx ooo
PB2
I love you too Thirsty   What do you mean by "roastiness"? You can get a bitterness similar to strong espresso coffee - is this what you mean? You can get a harshness when the beer is still in your mouth but is sort of goes away once the beer is swallowed - is this what you mean? You can get a sort of dry finish that lingers a bit but is not the same as hop bitterness - is this what you mean?
