Discovered a great glass bottle

I was in Dan Murphy's the other weekend and came across an actual viking pilsner so, of course, I grabbed one to try. It wasn't bad I suppose, but the thing that impressed me most was the bottle!! Check it out:

Very generic shape, nice thick glass and crown seal. With the label removed it'd be impossible to identify it as any particular manufacturer's bottle - it's perfect!

The only problem is that at $55/carton it'd cost a fair bit to build up a supply of them. For me I'd be looking at nearly $800 to replace my current supply of PETs, so it's a good thing I'm not moving to glass any time soon.

I wonder if I can contact them and find out where to get their bottles from ...

I have bought used stubbies from the Steam Exchange Brewery at Goolwa. They sell them clean for 10c each to cover the deposit.

They appear to be the same as the stubbies you can buy from some LHBSs.

Yeah do this, its the quickest option.

We are lucky here we have 5 cent deposits on bottles so it is easy to go to the redemption center and pick up a case of bottles for $3

Move to kegs. You won't regret it. My start-up cost was only around $250. If it is square footage you're worried about then simply get rid of all your bottles and milk crates and you will have the space you need for a small fridge. The fridge not only will hold your kegs, but it conveniently keeps goods like hops and yeast fresh and cool! It's a no brainer. I only wish I made the move sooner![roll]

Found another great bottle, and this time it's a local (SA that is) brewer so perhaps they could be contacted directly for bottles? One of my workmates knows these guys too which might help.

Smiling Samoyed Brewery

No pics of the bottle itself unfortunately. Had their pale ale at the Duke of York yesterday. Seemed thick and sturdy and couldn't see "no refill" on there.

Just one problem, again it's only a 330mL bottle.

Hi Folks,

If it helps liquorcraft.com.au in Melbourne have:

640ml glass crown seal amber bottles $16.95 doz.

or 750ml flip top amber bottles @ $29.95 doz

They will post not sure of the cost? (no affilliation) but I have purchased a number of brews from them. Also on Ebay.

I probably spent somewhere near $750-$800 building up my supply of Sierra Nevada bottles. I've got about 240 of them and they go for around $75-80 a carton (although I had trouble finding cartons so most of them were just 6 packs), so it's probably over $800 really. But at least I got to drink some kickarse beer in the process, so it was worth it in the end!

However, once me and the other half move in together I will be looking at a keg setup.

Just struck gold! It looks like Feral Brewery have those good, thick bottles too so I did a deal with the boss at work - they will buy the Hop Hog for Friday drinks so that I can have the empties. In return I'll bring them all back in for a second gig, homebrew wise cool

Not a bad deal.

But they are still 330ml aren't they KR?

I have more than enough bottles, but if I were to suggest any on the market today I would go for the Bulmers 500ml cider bottles (heavy as hell) or the Cascade 'fancy' range which come in 375ml crown seal bottles.
