reactivating yeast

Hi,

I am thinking of making a steam ale after seeing the recipe on the site here. It recommends using a white labs 810 yeast which I've not used before. I'm wondering if the yeast that will be in the bottom of the stubbies once ready can be reactivated in the same way the commercial yeast culture is made from coopers beers? Or is a wort substance required?

Hey Daniel, welcome to the forum.

Are you referring to reactivating the yeast from your own home brew bottles? If so, yes you can do that and you would be better using a wort made from DME rather than dextrose.

Thanks Hairy,

I've been "ghosting" these forums for a little while now and see your input is excellent[biggrin] What sort of a ratio of DME to water would you use? Probably a silly question but i'm just making the transition to the likes of extra hops and extract brewing so it's all pretty new to me!

Don't mistake quantity for quality [biggrin]

I use a wort with a gravity of 1040. This will be around 100g DME per litre of water.

Hairy is just being modest Daniel.

Did you know he once sanitised and entire suburb? [biggrin]

Yep, cleaning up Australia one State at a time. I should have started with dirty Queensland [devil]

Sorry, I'm a little bitter after the game tonight [crying]

Maybe you just need to watch your IBU's.
