William
Hmm, been thinking about Coopers and the market, and what you could try next. Seems to me Cooper's strength is its Ales and Stouts, and their reputation. And a big hole in the market (for all breweries) is probably young drinkers looking for a sweet easy to drink kick which has a classy appeal. So, bringing the two together, how about a premixed Cooper's portagaff? Half Coopers stout, half lemonade. Sort out the sweetness issue and it could be prepackaged. I read the home brew areas thread about how the ginger beer is sweet - seems reasonable to use the same approach. Package it in a yuppie way - maybe like the new wave vodka drinks, keep it in a clear container. All very smart and new. Then charge 'em appropriately in the night clubs! I reckon it hasnt been done before - and Coopers is a great innovator. (look at the idea of Dr Tim's - fermenting in an aluminium can ) Of course it wouldnt last as long, but so what? And the classic beer drinkers will decry it from afar, but they arent the target :-) Call it Cooper's Black and let them figure it out. (maybe a black label and a black bottle? Works for Rockfords Black Shiraz!) Hey, my concept fee is very reasonable too - just a tour of the new brewery :-) Cheers in beers William

Beery Bill
Great idea but it wouldn't be as easy as it sounds. Coopers stout is a live beer - It has active yeast, so if you add sweet lemonade it will go into fermentation mode again and you'll have a dark barley wine bomb. A solution would be to filter and pasteurise - which I suspect would be detrimental to the flavor.
